ONE-DAY INTRODUCTION TO ROCK CLIMBING
This course is a general introduction to rock climbing. It is ideal for people with little or no previous outdoor climbing experience. We start with an explanation of equipment (shoes, harness, helmet and chalk). Then we move on to explaining anchor and belay systems, since they are the fundamental components of the climber’s safety. We spend the rest of the day top-rope climbing to develop confidence in anchor and belay systems, and your own climbing technique. Course includes harness, shoes, helmet and chalk bag rental. All you need is clothing that provides, maximum mobility, a bagged lunch, a water bottle, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm. You must provide your own transportation to the selected climbing area. Dates: Saturday, May 17th; May 31st; June 28th; July 12th; July 26th; August 23rd Time: 8 am to 2 pm Cost: $60 All participants must register one week prior to class.

ONE-DAY TECHNIQUE The smooth and seemingly effortless movements of an expert rock climber are similar to a vertical dance. To develop this fluid style you need a clear understanding of the principles of moving on rock and lots of practice. In this course we will help you refine your technique by demonstration and critique. This course is flexible in design and can be easily adapted for a particular type of climbing; face, crack, slab, overhung or all. All you need is harness, shoes, helmet, and chalk bag (these items can be rented if required). You need to bring a bagged lunch and water. You must provide your own transportation to the selected climbing area. Dates: Saturday, June 14th; August 9th Time: 8 am to 2 pm Cost: $70 All participants must register one week prior to class.

ONE-DAY INTRODUCTION TO TOP-ROPING Top-roping offers a safe and simple alternative to the commitment associated with lead climbing, however, you must have a working understanding of anchoring techniques before you can safely go out on your own. In this course you will learn about the theory of anchoring and top-roping, but more importantly, you will get plenty of practice employing various techniques to actually set up top-roped climbs under careful supervision. Although there will be time to climb during this course, emphasis will be placed on the process of creating safe and efficient top-rope climbs under a wide variety of conditions. This course is an introduction only; it takes more than one day or one course to be a competent top-rope setter. Top-rope gear is not required. All you need is harness, shoes, helmet, and chalk bag (these items can be rented if required), bring a bagged lunch and water. You must provide your own transportation to the selected climbing area. Dates: Sunday, May 18th; June 15th; August 10th Time: 8 am to 2 pm Cost: $80 All participants must register one week prior to class.

ONE-DAY INTRO TO TRADITIONAL LEADING
Learning to lead climb is a serious commitment. In this course you will be introduced to the skills and techniques required for climbing at the sharp end. After a discussion on the theory of leading and an explanation of the equipment used in leading, you will start to lead climb. All leading is done with the security of a top-rope. The focus of this course is on protection placement and the construction of anchors for both protection and belays. Instruction and critiquing continue throughout the day as you continually practice lead climbing. Other areas of discussion include route-finding, descent and retreat techniques, rope management, and other topics. This course is an introduction only; it takes more than one day or one course to be a competent traditional leader. Traditional leading gear is not required. All you need is harness, shoes, helmet, and chalk bag (these items can be rented if required), bring a bagged lunch and water. You must provide your own transportation to the selected climbing area. Dates: Sunday, June 1st; June 29th; August 24th Time: 8 am to 2 pm Cost: $80 All participants must register one week prior to class.
